Le Brun Servenay this Champagne Friday

This is a first time pour for OW and we are tickled pink to share these bubbles with you! The Le Brun and Severnay House’s vines are located at the heart of the prestigious “Côte des Blancs” on three Grand Cru villages as well as on the surrounding hills. These vines are composed of 80 % Chardonnay, with the remaining 20 % being a mix of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes. Limestone & clay dominate the terroir here and vines are well established, the oldest parts of the vineyard boast 80 year old vines!  These wines will express their terroir, the best qualities imparted by the vintage and the thoughtful blending techniques mastered by these two families.  Come enjoy with us!

Boulard = Biodynamic & Beautiful

Making wine is nothing new to the Boulard family.  For most of their 7 generations of growing fruit in Champagne, estate juice was blended into many great bottles of other winemaker's bubbly.  But Francis Boulard saw things about his family's 35+ year old vines and treatment of the land differently.  He spearheaded the transition to biodynamics and began bottling his own wines.  Horses still plough the narrow strips between rows which later grow wild with native species that allow for pest protection without the use of chemicals.  This purity shines through in wines that are balanced, fresh & modern.

Brut Nature
Brut Reserve
2004 Millesime

Beautiful Babies from Gaston Chiquet

Kate has put together a sassy line up from an always impressive producer.  The brothers Chiquet had an every man for himself type of attitude early in the last century when they insisted to keep their fruit and  is the  2 lighter, brighter bubbles will start the flight: a brisk Brut Reserve with the traditional blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Meunier & Blanc de Blancs.  Then it's on to the delicate & dry Brut Rosé and of course the highly coveted Special Club.

Corsican Wine Tasting with Special Guest, Bonnie Crocker

We are taking a tour of the wines of Corsica with our knowledgeable host Bonnie at the helm and Jim in the kitchen!  Although it is a territory of France, Corsican winemaking traditions and grape varietals are mainly of Italian origin.  Join us to taste and see the marriage of these two histories with world class wine and great company.

We will begin this offering around 6pm, our regular menu and tasting options will remain available.

Update:  Here are the tasting notes from last week, if you missed out give us a call or an email and we can hold some aside or send some your way!

Canarelli Figari Rose $42 bttl: signature Corsican native variety 50% Sciaccarellu, 30% Niellucciu (aka Sangiovese), 20% Grenache from the appellation of Figari at the very windy southern tip of Corsica. Organic and biodynamically tended vines planted in granite yield a serious, elegant, floral and mineral rich rose.

Abbatucci Rouge Frais Imperial $30 bttl: 100% Sciaccarellu from granitic soils in the central western capital of Ajaccio. This "fresh red", simply made with short maceration and ageing in concrete and stainless, is bright and juicy and filled with the aromas of wild Corsican herbs.

Giacometti Patrimonio Cru des Agriates $21 bttl: 97% Niellucciu (Sangiovese), 3% Grenache from the wild and isolated Agriate desert on the northern tip of the island. The local hot dry "Libecciu" wind, old vines, and heavy clay granite soils make farming on this estate a labor of love but produce a truly delicious, generous, and approachable Patrimonio wine.

Canarelli Red $54 bttl: 80% Niellucciu, 15% Syrah, 5% Sciaccarellu- returning to Figari in the south, Canarelli's classic Figari rouge is aged 14-18 months in large foudres and bottled unfiltered. Rich and complex yet always elegant, it is dark fruited, smoky, spicy and expresses the soul of Corsican terroir.
